Celebrating one year at OG with our Operations Assistant, Beatrice Oyadoke
Since joining Opportunity Green a year ago as our Operations Assistant, Beatrice has been instrumental in supporting our office move and our team’s daily operations. Here she reflects on her first year in the role.
A year ago, I joined Opportunity Green, and little did I know how much my life, work, and even my social confidence would change.
What drew you to work at OG?
The first and funniest reason was the brand colour. Green has always been my favourite colour, so when I saw the name Opportunity Green it immediately captured my attention. Then I discovered Roo, our CEO’s dog (and our Chief Security Officer) who is part of the team and proudly features on the website. I love dogs but this was something different. It was a warm, human and wonderfully unique touch that made me think: I want to be part of this team.
Of course, my reasons went deeper. I had just finished my master’s degree in project management and operations, and I was at a point in my life where I needed to find the right opportunity after graduating. Opportunity Green’s mission spoke directly to my values as a Jehovah’s Witness, where helping others and making the earth a better place is at the heart of everything. Add to that a four-day work week and a smooth application process, it just felt right – I knew I had found my place.
What has changed since you started?
For one, our office location. There is something exciting about starting fresh in a new environment and seeing everyone settle in and make it their own. My role has also evolved and so have I. I am still naturally introverted, but working with such a supportive and motivating team has made me more confident and more outgoing than I ever expected. The growth of the team has also been exciting to witness. When I joined, I was staff member number 20, and now we are about 27, and more employees have yet to join!

What are you most proud of being involved in since you joined?
Being a key player in our office move is my proudest achievement so far. I was involved from the early planning stages through to the final setup, helping to find the right space, ensuring it matched our values and supporting the furnishing and maintenance. It was a project that touched almost every part of our operations, and being trusted to contribute so much to it was incredibly rewarding.
I have also been proud to contribute to creating a more transparent working structure. We now have clearer processes, well-defined access rights and a stronger framework for how we work together. This has made daily operations smoother and reinforced a culture of trust and openness. A big part of this has also been a well organised onboarding system we now have in place. It has made the first week less overwhelming and more enjoyable for new staff.
I am also the first point of contact when IT issues arise. Being able to support the team and resolve problems – or escalate them when necessary – has given a whole new dimension to my role, and I am always happy to help.
I am especially proud that in just one year of working for OG I was able to gain my Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. I was supported throughout the several months of preparing for the exam, and that says everything about an organisation that is truly committed to staff growth and development.
I am super proud of the Ops team. I was the third team member, and now we are four. I’m thrilled to see us expand and make so much impact, constantly refining and seeking better ways to run the organisation’s operations.
I am also proud of our organisational achievements this year. From our successful campaign exposing the legal risks of advertising ‘sustainable aviation fuel.
What inspires you about what you’re working on?
The work we do has real impact on the environment and the communities we serve. That’s an incredible source of motivation.
Working with a diverse team and seeing the passion and commitment of each and every person is amazing – I can’t help but be inspired. I am proud of everyone at OG.
My manager, Gill, also inspires me daily with her leadership, encouragement, support and commitment to our mission.
What are you looking forward to in the coming year?
In the coming year, I’m keen on making an even greater impact within the team and brainstorming more ways our operations could run smoother. What challenges might arise? Well, whatever they are, I am ready to tackle them!
I look forward to strategically resolving whatever challenge comes our way and to new learning opportunities (I’m particularly interested in diving deeper into IT and finance). I’m excited about conducting more research and due diligence checks, to OG earning more awards and recognitions, and enjoying more team gatherings and personal growth. I also anticipate pursuing new certifications and experiences for my career development. And most importantly, I’m committed to making an even greater positive impact on the world around us!
