About us

Established in 2021, Opportunity Green is a fast-growing not-for-profit organisation that helps to identify and unlock opportunities to tackle climate change. We build ambitious coalitions, support climate vulnerable countries in international negotiations and find innovative legal pathways to fight climate change.

Our well-regarded, pragmatic legal team is headed by Legal Director David Kay and consists of eight full-time staff members. We have rapidly become a recognised expert in sectoral strategic legal interventions, using the law to drive climate action (through both litigation and non-contentious legal analysis). We also work closely with other NGOs and funders to layer legal strategies into existing projects.

Our notable strategic legal actions include successful greenwashing rulings against a major cruise company in relation to its misleading labelling of Liquefied Natural Gas as ‘green’, and launching a court case against the European Commission in relation to its green investment rules for aviation and shipping.

The team works across all of OG’s sectoral focus areas, namely aviation, shipping, steel, agriculture, trucks and aviation and shipping finance.

We are now looking for a Trustee with legal expertise to join our board.

What’s the role?

We are seeking a Trustee with legal, and particularly strategic litigation experience to:

  • Support the board in understanding and governing a charity that uses law as a tool for systemic change.

  • Help assess the merits, risks and impacts of high-profile legal interventions.

  • Oversee risk mitigation strategies to safeguard the charity’s assets and reputation during any legal action.

  • Act as a critical friend to OG, providing independent perspective and challenge.

Full details are available in this recruitment pack.
